Sirens on the Rock....Craig Lawrence

The Craig Lawrence presentation was one of the most highly anticipated of the week- well to me anyway. I knew that yhe man who used to design knitwear for Gareth Pugh would be one of the first designers at fashion week to be highly innovative and creative.
4 models gradually made their way around a drapes knit sculpture piece in the centre of the Portico rooms. It resembled a mythical creature, deep in the realms of fantasy- much the
inspiration behind the collection. I'm so glad Lawrence decided to continue with the presentation format as seeing his detailed knitwear up close meant you could really see the techniques and unusual materials he chose to use.

He used Japanese Kyototex metallic yarn in long, flowing silhouettes which clung to the body like water cascading over skin, which kept a feminine feel to the collection that could so easily been lost by the choice of yarn. On one dress the inside hem was weighted down with metal chain mail to create a narrow column around the model's legs elongating the silhouette.

Colours were muted hues of sea greens, blues, silvers and white.

I especially liked the flat paper-like yarn used to weave/knit the pure white pieces.

Craig Lawrence is definitely an innovator of knit.
