Collection of contrasts......

Managed to squeeze onto the front row as the photographer pit was packed! Weirdly front row is not my first choice- I prefer to be in the action with the photographers- better shots, funny comments and generally there's just more of a buzz! Because of this, rather than (blurry) full shots I concentrated on catching the prints elements of the collection in more detail.

The inspiration:
" Everyone probably thinks that I'm a raving nymphomaniac, that I have an insatiable sexual appetite, when the truth is I'd rather read a book"- Madonna

Juxtaposing sprawling old-hand script prints with more formal structuring gave the collection the modern edge it needed. When I think of the renaissance I think of films like "Quills"- from the shallow surface you think of this refined society, but underneath lies these seductive, slightly lewd behaviors.

Basso and Brook did well to make this collection modern, keeping silhouettes clean and uncomplicated so that the print could take president. Although, for me, there wasn't enough variety in the collection. I understand that it needs to be an obvious "collection" but after the show I found it harder to differentiate between the pictures as prints too repetitive.

Decorative script was muted by dusty blocks of colour- again a nod to the retro inspiration for the collection. Colours followed this 70's retro trend seen at Marc Jacobs for NYFW.

Contrasting fabrics also helped to soften the print- the printed suede was more muted and gave a regal sheen. It also helped to weigh down the printed silks- again bringing the collection more up to date with a modern use of combined fabrics.

Moving away from print- I really liked the structure of the front of these trousers- the hidden pleating was something quite unique.

The one issue I do have is the number of contrasts in this collection- I kind of loose interest when EVERY aspect of the collection is about contrast.
