London Fashion Week is not just about the catwalk shows at Somerset House. All over London there are smaller, off schedule shows that run constantly throughout the week. There's On/
Off at Victoria House- an event which has now earned the right to apar on the main fashion week schedule, leading us to believe that the fashion industry are embracing these newer designer shows. Take the success of Hannah Marshall who started showing her designs at the On/Off fashion exhibition (on throughout LFW). Not forgetting Vauxhall Fashion Scout at the Freemason's Hall and My Beautiful Fashion- this year held at The Old Sort
ing Office, New Oxford Street.
New designers have to start/be noticed somewhere and "The Ones to Watch" show at VFS on Friday could be the place to start....here are some of my highlights:
Lilee
Most designers are attempting it- yes it's the 'all white' collection. Lilee's collection was ethereal and very pure. The garments had a lot of movement and the hidden pleated layers were revealed as the models walked. The back detailing was lovely and I especially loved the pleating on the back of the first dress that was graduated down to the hem.
Charlotte Taylor
I would say Charlotte Taylor was the most 'popular' winner of the Ones to Watch this year, instantly recognisable for her graduate collection of graphic bird print (which was worn by one of the show producers/ another blogger). This time it was a graphic, simple robot print walking down the catwalk to a remix of Daft Punk's 'Technologique". The colour palette was clean, fresh and young.
(An interesting thought- some of the most interesting details of the garments are the backs- something that's always missed on the normal catwalk images- why is that?- I've always wondered....)
