Porn.....the Ann-Sofie Back way.....

Ann-Sofie Back Atelje approaches her collections from a different angle. This time she chose the porn industry- and that wasn't the only time that day that a designer chose the subject as inspiration- but the outcomes were very different. Back manages to reinvent the concept into something I certainly wasn't expecting.

The inspiration was subtly clear- "porn and the sexualisation of society"- the stark black and white were banal just like Back's impressions of the porn industry i.e. pornographic images have become more accepted and no longer shocking. The metal structures that pierced the long silhouettes, attached then to one leg, gave that feeling of restriction and limitation.

Pieces I especially liked were the metal rings insert into a circular cut-out at the back of a simple clean taffeta dress and the weighted crepe jersey top weighted at the back by silver drops.

Her designs were so innovative and original that every time another look came out you could see that everyone was impressed and curious to know how it was done.

Back had also collaborated with Dutch Textile designer, Baert Hess- who's wet-appearance white fabric (the first look) was mesmerizing.

The presentation  was simple and clean and compared to Back's shows you can see detail up close in a view to trying to understand how it's done.

On reflection of LFW- it's probably some of the best design I've seen. Back is a pure creative.
