Early morning.....LFW Day 2.....

Bernard Chandran

Early morning, walking from Tottenham Court Road tube, changed into heals at Starbucks to walk to My Beautiful Fashion at the Old Sorting Office, New Oxford Street. Apart from the Top Shop space at the old Eurostar platform at Waterloo, this is one of the more interesting locations for the off schedule shows this fashion week. A vast, cold, austere space, but perfect for Bernard Chandran's SS 2011 show.

Titled- "A Modern Romance" I was looking forward to seeing a softer (not too soft- it is Bernard Chandran after all!) side to the creative, young designer who showed a very dark, almost gothic collection in February for AW10.

Creative techniques in print, colour and fabric made this collection stand out from the norm. He used a traditional technique called KERAWANG (a type of cutwork).

Silhouettes were also inspired by traditional Malay clothing, but the collection looked anything but 'costume'. Embracing the future, yet referencing tradition- this collection hits this balance perfectly. The only problem? heavy beaded shoulders meant dresses easily fell down.
